VAirous cleaning products often have labels that make claims such as “all-natural”, “green” or “organic”,
and these claims put a consumers mind at ease as they feel they are making a more health conscious decision
while at the same time often paying a higher price. A university professor recently concluded a study that
investigated and compared volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from 37 different products that were labeled
“green” or “organic”. The results showed that 156 different VOCs were emitted from the 37 products and of the VOCs
found 42 are classified toxic or hazardous under federal laws. The average consumer is exposed to air pollutants
indoors on a daily basis, but the alarming fact is that the pollutant source is usually consumer products that
were purchased to clean, which is ironic on its own.
